Evaluation of Pleural Effusion Type Determination Based on Light's and Heffner's Criteria

چکیده
Pleural effusion is an abnormal accumulation of pleural fluid in the cavity due to excessive transudation or exudation. Light's criteria used as standard method distinguish between exudates and transudates. Some recent studies reported misclassifications which led development several alternative criteria, such Heffner's criteria. The purpose this study was determine sensitivity specificity type effusion. This research observational with a cross-sectional using patients at Clinical Pathology Laboratory Installation Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital July 2018. Total protein, LDH, cholesterol levels were measured all samples that met inclusion exclusion There 45 consisted 30 transudate 15 exudate samples. Based on clinical diagnosis, showed 3 obtained 2 misclassifications. data above, statistical had 96.7% 86.7%. 100% can be because it better than

Discriminating Tuberculous Pleural Effusion from Malignant Pleural Effusion Based on Routine Pleural Fluid Biomarkers, Using Mathematical Methods
Background The differential diagnosis of tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE) and malignant pleural effusion (MPE) is difficult because the biochemical profiles are similar. The present study aimed to differentiate TPE from MPE, using a decision tree and a weighted sparse representation-based classification (WSRC) method, based on the best combination of routine pleural effusion fluid biomarkers....
متن کاملDifferentiating Pleural Effusions: Criteria Based on Pleural Fluid Cholesterol
Methods: Patients with pleural effusion during a 6-month period were enrolled in the study and underwent thoracentesis. Pleural fluid was analyzed for the levels of protein, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and cholesterol. Etiological diagnosis, which was established after considering clinical and biochemical factors, was the gold standard for comparison. Cut-off values for pleural fluid cholester...

متن کاملPleural effusion on transthoracic echocardiogram.
A4-year-old girl with tetralogy of Fallot had complete repair by open-heart surgery with patch closure of the ventricular septal defect, resection of the pulmonary valve, and placement of a transannular pericardial patch to enlarge the right ventricular outflow tract. On the day of discharge, a 2D echocardiogram revealed a small anterior pericardial effusion and a large pleural effusion, seen h...
